Mooresville Community Tour . . .

What a perfect day for our Mooresville Community Tour! It started off a little chilly, but then warmed up and the day couldn't have been better. We began by visiting Mooresville Public Library and learning about all that the library has to offer. We visited the oldest part of the library and learned that the Mooresville Library was opened in 1890! Some of the original furniture is in that room. Ms. Crystal gave us a great tour! She hopes to see all of our students there!

Next, we ventured on to D. E. Turner Hardware. The store is over 100 years old and a big part of history in our town. Much of the historic

building remains unchanged! 

Our next stop was Mooresville Ice Cream which is another part of history in Mooresville. It is over 90 years old! We enjoyed ice cream on that visit. On to Mooresville Town Hall where we met Mayor Atkins. It's

always a favorite stop on our tour, he gives us such a good time. We learned that the city is responsible for water, recycling, garbage services, recreation, safety services, and MORE! It takes 88 million dollars to run our city each year. We also learned that the city of Mooresville has a population of 35,156 people. Mayor Atkins

said that it's very possible that a student in our class could be the mayor one day! We all had sat in Mayor Atkins' chair and introduced ourselves as Mayor of Mooresville just to try it out. I've added a page on the right to include all of the pictures of students as Mayor. When finishing at Town Hall, we proceded to the Mooresville Fire Department. We discussed fire safety and learned that even young children can lead others to safety. One of the firefighters gave a demonstration of putting on his gear, it weighs 40

pounds! That's a lot! Another firefighter gave us a tour around a fire truck and let us know about the different sections and tools. Last, but not least, we walked to Liberty Park to have lunch! We were lucky to picnic on such a beautiful day. We even got in a little playground 

time! It was a super day.
