Life Cycle: Hatchling Stage
This stage is VERY important. There
are many predators that will try to
capture the hatchling before it makes
it to water.

We had such a great learning experience yesterday by Skyping with turtle expert Brad Nahill. Brad has worked in sea turtle conservation for over 15 years. This was a great opportunity for us as we learn life cycles, because sea turtle conservation is VERY important to the life cycle of the turtles.

Sea turtles have lots of predators.
Brad is telling us about them.

We learned about why sea turtles are important, the threats that they face, what people are doing around the world to save them, and how WE can help. Did you know that sea turtles LOVE jellyfish? That's not good! They won't hurt the sea turtles, but they don't have enough enough nutrition for the turtles to live off of. A way that we can help with sea turtle conservation is to help keep the beach clean.

The trash could kill the turtle. 

After you clean up after yourself, look around to see if there is one more piece trash someone else may have left! Throw that piece away too. Check out the great video below: Billion Baby Turtles is helping restore sea turtle populations around the world. 

Brad told us that he loves his job! He travels to beautiful places and is able to help turtles. One of our students asked him which turtle is his favorite. He likes a lot of them, but his very favorite it the leatherback turtle.
