Great Visit from Author Dianne Ochiltree . . .

We were honored on Wednesday, World Read Aloud Day,

to have a visit from author Dianne Ochiltree. She came to us by Skype from her home in Sarasota, FL. Students ALWAYS want to ask the authors how they get their ideas. She told them ways that she gets here: reading, writing everything down, read more, thinks about past events from her childhood, read more, and gets together with other authors! Dianne read her newest book to us, It's A Firefly Night. The idea for the beautiful and fun book came from her childhood. She and her brother and sister
would chase fireflies on clear summer nights. When their dad came home, they would rush to show him with excitement. Next, they would release the fireflies. It's hard for the students to realize, a great story can come from something SO simple! Below is a link to Dianne's site. We have been enjoying reading It's A Firefly Night in our class over and over. It's fun to actually SEE the book when you have talked to the person that wrote it! We also have Molly, By Golly by Dianne Ochiltree and will be reading that soon.
