During Read Across America Week the classes engaged in a friendly challenge to share about one of their favorite books. The contest was to decorate doors (but we can't decorate the doors, so we decorated beside our doors) using the theme of a book. Our class chose Pippi Longstocking since we had just finished reading it and enjoyed it SO much. That Pippi is quite the entertaining character. Students drew and painted the characters in the story and labeled them. They also designed and painted Pippi's house, Villa Villekula, which was where much of the story took place. When we finished reading the book, we watched the original movie and compared the book and the movie by making a venn diagram. We displayed a large diagram in the hall. Each student wrote a sentence about something that happened or a description from the book. Well, after all of this, I am proud to say that we were second place in the "un-door" competition. We were so excited!!! We were awarded with a "slipper" day, but we took it a knotch higher and had a pajama day.
