A Great First Day . . .

The first day is over, and it was a LOT of fun! We spent
time getting to know new friends, learning about 2nd grade, meeting class pets, and getting rid of "jitters". Everyone got a container of play dough and sculpted something that would tell
me a little about themselves. I learned a lot! Some students like to play with legos, several students have dogs, several like snowmen, and one student made some delicious looking red velvet cookies. It was a great way to get the day going. There are many changes at South this year! We went on an "inquiry walk" to see how many differences we could find. It didn't take long! Someone pointed out right away that Mrs. Micklow had moved to another room. We also noticed a few changes with 1st grade teachers! Wow, we think that the media center had the most changes. Chairs were moved around, some of the walls were painted red, the fish tank is now in the media center, and there are some new chairs there as well! As we turned the corner, we saw a large new painting
in the office. Someone also pointed out that we have a new principal! Our next stop was the cafeteria. Did you know that we have a new floor in the cafeteria as well as new ice cream signs. The new floor extended into the gym! Outside
of the gym is a poster with shoes hanging on it. The poster reminds us to wear tennis shoes on PE days!
Did you know that a great way to get to know each other is by having M&Ms? We had an activity in which students pulled an M&M out of the bag and told something about themseIves.  If a student pulled out green he/she told a favorite food. Students shared something different for each color. Of course at one point we had to have a little brain break. The best way to do that is moving around a little with
GoNoodle. I was able to do one ofmy favorite things after lunch, read a book to the class! We talked about jitters before reading "First Day Jitters". Jitters can be many things: nervous, scared, excited, worried, and delighted. Many of us had those feelings. Well, the best way to get rid of the jitters is to have "Jitter Juice"! I wonder what tomorrow will bring . . .
