Skyping with Leslie Bulion

 learned that he had eaten all but one slice of his
dad's pie entry for the fair!!!!

We Skyped with author, Leslie Bulion, today for World Read Aloud today! What was really awesome was that SHE read part of her book to US! Mrs. Micklow's class came over for the Skype, because they are reading The Universe of Fair too. We were able to ask Ms. Bulion some questions and were bummed when we found out that we may not know what happens to the pie until the end of the book. The suspense may just be too much. Ms. Bulion told us that many of her ideas came from the fair that is in her hometown every year. She has been going to the fair there for 30 years. She took her daughters when they were young, and now they all volunteer at the fair each year. We told her that we liked how Miller calls Penny "Painy" in the book. She told us that she had "Painy" in the book a lot in her first draft, but her editor told her not to use it so much. She had to change it back to Penny! It's fun learning about how authors write books and get ideas!
