We Have a Travel Buddy from Kansas . . .

We've been anxiously awaiting the
package, it is here!
He has arrived! We are participating in a travel buddy project with a class from Kansas. We will be hosting Jagster the Jaguar as an ambassador student in our classroom for the next few months.  He is from Mrs. Cox's 2nd grade class at Sunflower Elementary. Jagster travels with his own bag, journal, and parent letter. Parents, read the letter to understand this undertaking when
Jagster visits your home! The most powerful components of any Travel Buddy Project are home visits. Each night Jagster is sent home with a different student to visit with the child’s family.  It’s in these experiences that students build their literacy skills, fall in love with their new friend, and take the buddy on local adventures.  Whether they take him to read in a favorite spot

at home or to explore and learn at a local cultural festival, every visit is special. Jagster arrived in a package with goodies for our class! He brought us a book called S is for Sunflower, a calendar from his local town of Andover, a large bag of sunflower seeds for us to try and enjoy, a Wichita State University sticker, and a book made by his class about Kansas. We will be learning about where Jagster is from. I'll be adding a page so that you can check out Jagster's experiences while visiting us our your homes. Be on the lookout for that! Also, you can follow his experiences by che
cking us out on twitter using the hashtag #kstravelbuddy.

We're sampling the sunflower seeds. Most everyone
thought they were yummy!
