Our First International Mystery Skype . . .

We are becoming quite proficient at Mystery Skyping! It's
amazing the vocabulary we have learned as well as map skills that are way above 2nd grade level. I'm so proud or our class! Our first question to the other class is always "Are you located in the United States?". Recently we Skyped with a class that said "NO"!
We're using maps of Europe for the first time!
After getting over being super excited, our next mission was to figure out if they were located in North America. They were not. We had to ask questions to narrow it down to what continent the class was located in. After learning that they were in Europe, it took a while, but we finally learned that the class was in Portugal! Here are some questions that we asked that led us to our guess:

  • Are you landlocked? NO
  • Do you border the Atlantic Ocean? YES
  • Are you an island? NO
  • Do you border Spain? YES
  • Do you border Germany? NO

When we learned that they DID border Spain but DIDN'T border Germany, we knew that the country had to be Portugal!
Ms. Correia and her students
Ms. Correia's class shared the flag of their country!
We shared our flag with our new friends in Portugal!
We're looking forward to Mystery Skyping with other countries soon!
