Reading Stamina! We are on Fire!

One thing we work on each year is reading stamina. "What is that?", I'm sure you are thinking! Reading stamina is the ability to read independently for a length of time. Is is SOOOO important. Each year/grade, a child's ability to read independently should increase. In 3rd grade, stamina is extremely important in order to maintain focus when taking end of grade tests. Believe it or not, we are preparing for that already! In helping with this, as you know students have reading as part of homework each night as well as one weekend evening. Many students are not doing this, or at least not recording it. I know it doesn't seem important, but it's also a minor detail. Last year my daughter's grade in reading went down a level for not completing her reading log. She was in 5th grade! You better believe that changed! That being said, please help your child by reminding him/her to do this each evening. Thanks :-)! Oh, by the way, as a class we are up to 22 minutes on our stamina graph! That is every student in the class participating TOGETHER! It's not an easy task. We are ahead of the other 2nd grade classes . . . not that we are counting are anything . . . shhhhhh!
