The Maker Movement Has Entered Our Classroom . . .

What's the Maker Movement? It's a lot of things: tinkering,
Each group was given 30 pieces of
spaghetti, a long piece of yarn, tape,
and a marshmallow. The goal was
to have a standing structure that would
support a marshmallow on top.
collaborating, exploring, engineering, inventing, designing, constructing, critical thinking. Do you get the picture? We're sparking our imaginations! Having no directions, only supplies, made things start off a little difficult. After some discussion among groups and realizing that it's OK to explore, we started taking off!

Each group was given 15 pipe cleaners. The goal was to make the tallest structure possible. It had to stand on it's on.

What's a Makey Makey? It's an invention kit for the 21st century in which everyday objects are turned into touchpads when combining them with the internet. It's a simple Invention Kit for Beginners and Experts doing art, engineering, and everything in between. Students below are using a Makey Makey. Each student in the videos below is holding a chord. One student is the conductor. Each person that the conductor touches sounds like a piano chord. I guess you could call it a "human piano".

Now we have made a "banana piano" with the Makey Makey! Stay tuned for more creations!
